7/28 - looking for a spell?
Tuesday’s Newsletter: bra straps, spooky cinema, “come to brazil”
Everyone’s become extra witchy recently. Tarot, manifestations, astrology, rituals - people are not only being more affable when I bring up this shit in conversations (which I accidentally did on a work call the other day and everyone really jammed out to it), but they seem to be seeking it out too. I don’t have any sources to cite, just observations from someone who likes to sit at the bar and talk to strangers. There’s been so much chaotic good this summer, I’d like to think we’ve tasted enough magic for us to believe there’s more just around the corner, and maybe we can grasp it for ourselves.
Full moon and a Jupiter cazimi tomorrow - looks like you’re going to get a little magic, whether you like it or not.

Bra strap renaissance
*article*
Liana Satenstein wrote about the “ecstasy of exposed bra straps” for her two week series on lingerie and the things that go under our clothes. I remember the days fondly when I started wearing a small step-up from a training bra and how I could casually hook a pinky around one of the straps to expose it. Like women drawing pantyhose seams on their calves, there was something so intoxicating about hinting at my femininity with winks and nods. This essay is a delight and she has the best bra recommendations (and tops to accessorize them with).
“I was watching Erin Brockovich (2000) the other day, and I was inspired. There was actress Julia Roberts playing the struggling mom and sassy legal assistant, with her humongous, messy locks of hair, holding her pouty toddler at the waist, her bra straps hanging out of a tank top. She was like a broke Botticelli vision with a cornucopia of cleavage spilling out of her sweetheart necklines; a bra whose little crescent slices of lace poked out of a low-scoop top.”
“Not every bra has to have the hue of sand. Not every bra has to be so flagrantly boring. Recently I’ve been looking at colorful vintage bras, raging searing psycho-fab colors. Something that could keep me fab and hoisted and that I love to show to the world. There’s a peekaboo of a feather courtesy of La Perla. Spicy-virginal from ancient Calvin Klein. That red Brockovich-inspired strap, but in sunset orange. This fantastic floral-print Prada bra has the littlest sinister black bow sprouting on the center gore. For new ones, there is CouCou Intimates that adds a tiny kiss of a bow to the strap.”
Brooklyn Horror Society is opening a cinema
*article*
Scary movie lovers rejoice and everyone else, quake in fear - Brooklyn Horror Society is going brick and mortar with a bar/movie theater in Bushwick. In the past they’ve hosted marathon viewings of the Saw and Final Destination franchises. Who knows what they’re going to get up to but I’m glad they’ve made their home near the Dekalb L.
