One rainy Manhattan Saturday, I dipped into McNally Jackson in search of some print media. I was rewarded with the Texas addition of The Baffler which covers topics true to the Lone Star State like oil, the emergence of a booming tech industry, and demonic possession. You know I had to get down with this.
When I was a sophomore in high school, I worked at a summer camp for preteens and every third night was “Holy Spirit Night.” Children would seal their salvation by being slain in the spirit, speaking in tongues, and occasionally exercising a spirit of sin. Even though it would be 10 more years before I left the church, it was truly disturbing to witness these events yet they were ingrained in the culture around me. It was so real.
