Can I be so real for a hot second?
I’m immensely grateful for this newsletter and that y’all keep reading it and telling others about Wishlist. You enjoy weird little articles about fraud at fruitcake factories and love to learn about the random crafting events and bean-shaped kitchen wares.
In a world where there’s a lot of noise, I’m honored you choose to spend some of your precious waking moments with me.

“Appealing to heaven” and nationalists

You’ve probably seen the news that Supreme Court Justice Alito is flying a white flag with a green tree outside his home. He’s not the only one.
Leonard Leo is a dark money… fixer? lobbyist? advisor? The man wears many hats and even helped select Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett as candidates for the Supreme Court.
Leo’s claimed he’s flying the flag because:
“It was the first flag of the navy of the US”
It symbolizes the “civic duty and philanthropy toward one’s country”
He “likes naval flags”
He “likes pine trees” because he lives in Maine
The real reason why he has a tree flag in his front yard - it’s a Christian nationalist symbol for taking back the country through any means necessary.
“Rolling Stone reported last fall that House Speaker Mike Johnson flew the flag outside of his office in Congress, and that he has ties to the New Apostolic Reformation, a network of Christian leaders who believe that God has given Christians a ‘mandate’ to ‘conquer’ the government and other aspects of life.”
“On Thursday, Leo’s dark money hub, the Judicial Crisis Network, shared a National Review article on X defending Alito. ‘Of course, it is true that the Pine Tree Flag is associated today with conservatives, just as is true of virtually all Founding-era patriotic iconography, including the Constitution itself,’ JCN wrote, quoting the piece. ‘But that is mostly just a symptom of the political Left having abandoned the American Founding and its philosophy.’”
“Leo’s sprawling, growing dark money network, which received a historic $1.6 billion infusion in 2022, additionally donates to politicians and organizations that bring and support conservative, precedent-shattering cases before the Supreme Court.”

Go to Redge in the East Village. Book with the owner, Regina. She is an absolute delight and will help make your hair dreams come true. This week she dyed my hair cinnamon brown and gave me the cutest summer cut inspired by Aubrey Plaza in White Lotus.
Shout out to Sonny for first telling me about Redge 🙏🙏🙏
