I’m scrambling to get ahead of a busy weekend by getting a jumpstart on writing an interview and the May events list. I’ve got the Fcukers show tonight, followed by their DJ set at Good Room, and then I have a birthday party tomorrow night (love you, Morgan!). This means I’m going to be running on fumes by the time Sunday rolls around and should get in my writing while I can.
I’ve decided to create an abbreviated version of today’s newsletter to give me some additional time to work on the weekend sends.
Before the special announcement, I need to tell you about my thoughts on long denim skirts.
I grew up going to a very weird school. It was unaccredited, Christian, and had roots in homeschooling. In fact, some of my classmates actually graduated with homeschool degrees. Anyway, Six Flags rewarded this special educational gray zone by giving students free tickets to their park for one day of the year. Homeschool Day at Six Flags over Texas was like a national holiday and drew a spectrum of ideologies from the extremely religious to the normies. My favorite thing to do was count the amount of denim skirts I saw. 96 was my record.
Yesterday, walking around Williamsburg and Greenpoint, I found myself dredging up the old habit. I couldn’t help but tally the amount of long denim skirts. They’re everywhere! I knew this was going to be a spring trend but I wasn’t expecting it’d be the uniform.
I considered a “my culture is not your costume” joke, but I don’t think I ever owned a denim skirt growing up. Instead, I was partial to the flowy, brown gaucho pants with lace at the top. And you know what? If the girlies can dabble in denim wear, free of religious baggage, let them! … but I will be counting 👀
Now it’s time for the big news:
I’m hosting a meetup at 16 Handles in Williamsburg on Monday, 6 - 7:30 pm!
The froyo gods have called me to a divine purpose: vibing out and enjoying unlimited toppings with all of you. Honestly, I don’t have enough time in the week to see everyone I want and I figured many of you feel the same. Let’s make the froyo shop our new watering hole.
Stop by after work, bring a pal, and let’s enjoy the dessert that brought us this picture of Diane Keaton:
