James’ Barbie Dream House
*article*
James Goldstein’s house was recently featured on Selling Sunset but before this blip on reality TV, he was know for attending thousands of NBA games - often clad in over-the-top outfits featuring at least a touch of snakeskin. The interview from the New York Times goes into fascinating detail on how he’s renovated and transformed the Sheats-Goldstein house like an insatiable mad scientist since he purchased it in 1972.
There is careful attention to detail on how this 83 year old added a club to his property and uses textured concrete to bring a sense of nature into the space. The writer, Sam Lubell, also goes into detail on how he made his fortune off the backs of the most vulnerable:
“Goldstein’s is a well-documented path of buying rent-controlled mobile (also known as manufactured) housing parks throughout Southern California. He then either tries to raise rents beyond proscribed amounts or tries to convert them to market-rate or other more profitable development models. Goldstein sues cities that have tried to stop him…”
“Most residents in these developments were fixed-income older adults or low- to- middle-income families. ‘To say that these people are too well-off to qualify for rent control is such garbage,’ she added. ‘This is closing down one of the last resources of affordable housing in California.’”
His business cards read: “Fashion. Architecture. Basketball.” He should tack on “Predatory Landlord” just to round it out.

Tulip Bag
*accessories*
You know what sold me on this? The beading. Just looking at it, you can tell it has a nice weight to it. I love the leaf accents on the handle and I’m noticing more designers taking to organic/natural elements for their pieces. Boyko just launched their spring collection and you can explore the matching dress, skirt, and top here.

Orange Gelée
*skincare*
This product from Vacation has been in development for the past two years since the original company shut down. They pulled together 15k super fans and an advisory panel to consult on the look, smell, and feel of the vintage sunscreen gel. I bought this as soon as it launched and while it’s currently sold out, you can expect more will be in stock later in April when they get the first shipment out. Read more about the development of this product here!

These placecards are so darling. I don’t use that word often but it certainly fits for them. If you are getting ready for a bday party or fancy girls night in - remember these babies.
