The Juul boys were looking to get rich quick

The co-founders wanted to get rich, yes, but also two of the company’s investors and board members, Nick Pritzker and Riaz Valani, are alleged in a recent lawsuit to have used the company’s desperate situation in 2022 for their own gain. I think I was most shocked by this: “Tobacco giant Altria Group in 2018 invested $12.8 billion in Juul. Juul used nearly all of the cash from Altria’s investment to fund employee bonuses and shareholder dividends, including more than $2 billion to Valani and more than $1 billion to Pritzker.”
A billion dollar bonus, can you imagine that? TBH if that’s what your bonus structure looks like, you don’t need a lawsuit to tell you that you’re a villain.
“Entities tied to Valani and Pritzker now own nearly half of Juul, while most other investors have had their stakes sharply diluted amid the rescue… The lawsuit alleges that Pritzker and Valani ‘leveraged a distressed situation for their own personal gain to the detriment of Juul’s other stakeholders.’”

What: In September, Elyssa Goodman authored Glitter and Concrete, a book about the history of drag in New York City. This event at the Center for Brooklyn History, brings together Goodman and three New York drag queens for an evening of education and performances.
Sopranos: The Musical
When: January 22, 7:30 pm
What: An improv-ish musical about high schoolers writing and starring in a Sopranos musical. Meta.
Previous shows include: “the gang traveling into Tony's brain; the DiMeo crime family impersonating Slipknot to write a nu-metal song about respecting your parents, and Anthony Jr. getting lost at sea while windsurfing.”
